A few years ago, guidance came through during meditation- "work with flowers". "Hmmmmm, ok..." I thought to myself- "How?" A couple days later,I saw a sigh advertising for someone to work part time in the local florist shop. Thinking this was the answer, I gave up my part time cleaning job, and applied. At the time, I had been working part time with "bread and butter jobs" - work I had been doing for years which didn't challenge me to learn new skills. I was doing these part time to give myself some financial security whilst I used the rest of my time to build my Reiki & massage practice.
About a month into my new job, the flowers started talking to me. Explaining the different healing properties they each held, and how they could be used. Making bouquets for customers began to be an exercise in listening to intuition, and deep healing work! One plant in particular came in to the shop for sale-Kangaroo Paw. This Australian plant came in laughing, telling me that I had mis-understood the guidance slightly, that I was meant to work with the flowers for healing. Each flower has energetic properties for healing related to the mind-body-emotion-soul connection. And that in addition to the physical form and properties of the plant, these can be accessed primarily through making flower essences. The Kangaroo Paw encouraged me to make flowers essences, and to use flower essences within a healing context, as well as getting to know the actual plants! How I laughed that day, alone in the shop. It was a grand joke -and one of the infinite demonstrations of the sense of humour which I still find comes from working with soul, spirit and the Divine! I already knew a bit about flower essences, and had used them from time to time, but hadn't made many. That same day, a stranger came into the shop to buy flowers for his wife, late, just as I was supposed to be closing up. I took the extra time, building a bouquet for him. We got talking over the kangaroo paw, and I laughingly said something about the energetic properties... "I know" he said, smiling. It turned out he was a homeopath and used flower essences in his practice often. I talked about just starting with colour therapy and massage, and asked if he fancied swapping sessions... Or being one of my case studies? Over the following year or so, I got a lot of flower essences from him, in addition to homeopathy. And, began working with more flower essences myself, often making my own from the flowers around me. Both those in the flower shop, and primarily wild flowers - and making plenty of tree essences in the time since.
